KBULL 93: Salt Lake City, UT
Market #31
Program Director: Ed Hill
Voices: John Willyard, Jack Murphy
Is there anything bigger in 2007 than Hannah Montana? Her concerts are sold out everywhere, and scalpers are getting four to five times the face value of her tickets, including an astonishing $2,565 for one ticket to a Charlotte, NC show.
Many radio Program Directors would think that just giving away Hannah Montana tickets is a big enough deal to the listeners, but being like everyone else is not the method that KUBL, Salt Lake City Program Director Ed Hill has ever used for promotions, or radio imaging.
Country radio giant KUBL took Hannah mania to the extreme with the recent "KBULL 93 Hannah Montana Halloween Pumpkin Drop." Just picture hundreds of your loyal listeners armed with pumpkins anxiously awaiting their chance to drop it off a 75 foot tower at Trolley Square right in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City. If that wasn't enough, the KBULL 93 promotion team secured an old vehicle for the pumpkins to smash into. If you've never heard the sound of a falling pumpking hitting steel, then your missing out.
The news coverage from local TV was enormous (free marketing), the fun and excitement of the event was contagious (more free marketing from the listeners), and Ed Hill proved once again that it's not just the size of your marketing budget that matters, it's how well you use it.
In the player below you can listen to the radio imaging promo that supported the pumpkin drop contest, and you can also click here to check out pics of the event....
How can you make your next promotion stand out above the crowd?
